If I could invite a group of amazing women to talk life, love and business over for dinner and wine, Lane Kennedy would definitely be on the short list. I had the pleasure of being interviewed for Lane’s blog and the conversation got juicy. Between laughs, synchronicities and hell yeses … I knew I wanted to keep the conversation going. So I invited Lane to this interview series and she said YES!
Here’s Lane’s take on Divine Self-Care. I hope you enjoy meeting this gorgeous, brilliant and inspirational mama as much as I did.
Q – What does Divine Self-Care mean to you?
It’s simple, breathing and being present. If I am breathing and being present I am taking care of myself. That sounds so simplistic, but so many people hold their breath… and don’t breath enough!
Also, everyday I wake up and meditate, and journal for 30 minutes and I dump whatever I wake up with. It’s a such great exercise in being consistent in my life. If I don’t start my day with this simple action, Divine Self Care is not going to happen.
There are days that pass and I realize, “What the heck did I do today?!” This would be an example of no Divine Self-Care, NO bueño! When I’m not taking care of myself, nothing right happens in my life, it’s so obvious!
Q – Was there a time when you did not take care of YOU and how did it affect your life & business?
Uh, yes of course! I started my last venture with someone who was so opposite of me and my values — during the process I was totally overworked, under appreciated, and totally out of my mind by the time I took an exit. I look back at that time as totally disruptive, and yes I’m grateful, and proud of what I built but it took a part of me that I will never recover, which makes me sad. I also lost a relationship and that stinks!
Q – What are your top 3 Divine Self-Care tips that women can incorporate into their lives?
Tip 1 – When going to bed notice your breath… take deep breaths and remember and reflect upon the good things in your life!
Tip 2 – Drink lots of water, almost over do it.
Tip 3 – GET OFF COFFEE and Caffeine for that matter, you will feel true freedom, promise!
Q – What’s something (fun, silly, surprising) that we can learn about you?
I can’t stand dresses. Oh, they make me crazy! The fact that I modeled and wore dresses and heels for years makes me shudder now… give me a comfortable pair of jeans and a soft t-shirt and I’m in heaven!
San Francisco serial entrepreneur, Lane Kennedy Levy, a former GAP model who has consulted for non-profits in Thailand, written a book, worked with an ambassador, launched several start-ups with people, produced million dollar commercial campaigns, and has even created a few of her own companies discovered that helping women uncover and discover their lives is her sweet spot. She began Lanekennedy.com in 2006 with little conversations, and bite size tasks that were simple ways to create a world that women wanted to live in, and say Yes too! She believes that women can and do change the world, and believes that if women do it together the world becomes a better place.
She is the creator of the “Straightforward Movement,” 19 Days to Finding Your Inner Jedi. “I find that one of the most common remarks I hear from women is that she wishes she had more “Umph”or the “Answers” in her life to do everything she wants to do! (Which can be anything from traveling to the other side of the world, to writing a book, or learning a new skill.) Lane created the Straightforward Movement to inspire and create a bold community of women changing not only their lives but the lives of those around them.
Now it’s your turn …
Lane & I want to know … what can you let go of to create more space in your life?
