Q – What does Divine Self-Care mean to you?
Listening to my body and making sure I take good care of both my physical and emotional needs even if – or rather especially when – life is busy.
I follow a very clean diet but also know how to enjoy not so healthy food without feeling guilty. I work out and meditate regularly and I make sure I spend time just on my own to recharge my batteries.
Q – Was there a time when you did not take care of YOU and how did it affect your life & business?
Absolutely. I used to be depressed, co-dependent, bulimic and I was a bacteriophobe, too. At that time, I definitely did not take care of myself, I didn’t even know how to do that.
My business wasn’t affected because I made my work a #1 priority, but my health suffered tremendously.
The first thing I did that got me on the right track was joining a yoga class. I was decided to get better and turn my life around, and I did so by becoming a nutritionist, mindfulness coach and studying alternative healing approaches.
My healing journey actually took me 15 years but I made it by taking it one step at a time. Today I’m healthier than I have ever been and I really enjoy my life.
Q – What are your top 3 Divine Self-Care tips that women can incorporate into their lives?
1) Make healthy food part of your daily life and genuinely enjoy every meal.
2) Meditate before getting up in the morning and falling asleep at night. Even if it’s just for five minutes, it will help you take on a positive mindset for the day and sleep like a baby.
3) Explain to your kids, partner, family members or friends that taking care of your own needs is incredibly important. Communicate openly, set and accept boundaries.
Q – What’s something (fun, silly, surprising) that we can learn about you?
When I was a college student, I spent one lecture sitting next to a guy who wasn’t wearing anything but slippers. He was the city’s most famous nudist and had decided to join the lecture because it was freezing cold outside. After 90 minutes, I had missed most of what the professor was saying, but I had learned a lot about winter survival strategies for the naked.
